Sharing A Slice with Julia Roberts
We didn't really see Julia Roberts or share a slice of pizza with her...but we kinda did. Right? I mean we were in the same restaurant just 29 years apart.
Okay that's not the same. But we can pretend right?
Anyway - we had the best time in Mystic. From seeing our family (TJ, Todd and Rusty!) to having a fun dinner with my friend's parents (hi - Anne and Charlie!) - we couldn't have enjoyed it more. We took a hike in Rhode Island and visited a delicious bakery called Sift at least 4 times while we were here. I highly recommend the pumpkin whoopie pie or the peanut butter cookie with frosting in the middle. Or you can have both. I did!
And Mystic Pizza was a must go! From the framed pictures of all the cast to the movie running on a loop to the pizza...well it was all just amazing!
Because our family was in town we did more restaurant hopping than we would usually so we have some good reviews for Sift, The Oyster Club and Rise. Sift had delicious baked goods! I could have tried at least one of everything. The Oyster Club had great ambience and equally special food. I was fond of the New England Clam Chowder. I am used to extra thick and rich chowder but this version was broth based with a splash of cream at the end. Because all of the other ingredients (potatoes, clams, onions, parsley, maybe a little celery) were superb the soup didn't need to be thick or rich. So good! I would recommend the Eggs Benedict at Rise. With a yummy side of greens, it was a great breakfast.
Don't ask my mom about our hike we took in Rhode Island. She'll say we conquered the whole thing like all star athletes. Okay, so were proud of ourselves by the end but I don't know about the whole athlete thing. I had to crawl the last part of it because my feet were so sore. And I fell over to do some stretching and a woman ran over thinking I was injured. She told us she was a nurse. I was kind of hoping she was a massage therapist. The hike was very beautiful regardless of the fact that we had to climb over ginormous boulders that were probably not meant to be climbed over.
Tomorrow, we head to Cape Charles, Virginia. We have another very loooooooooooong drive ahead of us, so wish us luck. Thanks to a friend we will hopefully avoid a lot of traffic and get there before next year.
