Key West, FL
We will be leaving for a 3,400 mile journey starting tomorrow - please send good vibes and safe travels for all!
Our campground in The Keys was in Key Largo so after getting settled - we took the 2 hour journey south to Key West. I expected the end destination to be the cherry on the sundae but it was actually the drive there. It was stunning. The most gorgeous blue water I have ever seen. We could barely keep our eyes off it. When we were able to get a peek of the shore, it was crystal clear and super inviting! Not only was the teal water out of this world but there were so many other blues at levels where the sea floor was closer to the top of the water or much, much deeper.
It, of course, could not have been hotter. I will spare you the details since I almost always seem to complain about that. On the bright side though, my mom found a shop that sold key lime pie on a stick and that seemed to help cool us off. Lime and chocolate do not sound like a good pair but it was actually divine! My mom guessed they used dark chocolate which is far less sweet than milk chocolate and ended up balancing out the tartness of the lime.
We had a fun time hearing roosters crow behind bushes or sometimes out in the middle of the sidewalk. While we were looking for a parking spot, my mom spotted a woman shooing a chicken out of her restaurant. Ha! Most of them were pretty fearless but there were a few moms who were not messing around when it came to their babies. Phoebe walked past a chicken and rooster and the rooster meandered away but the mamma chicken squawked and huffed at Phoebe. We scooped Phoebe up and as we passed we saw her babies hiding in the bushes. Towards the end of our walk we saw another mom with a large group of babies. They seemed to have located a hole in the wall where clear water was dripping out of the bottom and everybody was taking a nice sip.
Next stop, Panama City Beach. And then over the next week we will be hopping our way back to Seattle to be with our family.
