Family Campus Tour - UCLA
After two years at Claremont McKenna, my mom made her way to UCLA. Two schools could not be more different. I think the only similarity is their home state of California.
Nestled in bustling LA, right in Westwood, UCLA is huge. Huge. Huge. Huge.
We took a quick stop at the information center to get a map of the campus and then a good location to park. After parking, we started our tour off in the athletic department of campus.
With a few quick looks at the map, we found our way over some buildings that were familiar to my mom. Because she was a junior by the time she arrived at UCLA, she didn't have as much of a connection with the campus here that she did at Claremont. She lived off campus and commuted in for classes.
It was really cool to see a place my mom spent a lot of time and explore some of the surrounding neighborhoods. We took a small driving tour around the outskirts of Bel Air and Beverly Hills. What a beautiful area!
Our wonderful tour was marred by the fact that it took THREE HOURS TO GET BACK TO OUR PARK. This time I did not nap. Phoebe did - lucky! Oh boy, I wish somebody would have put all three of us out and magically transported us to our park. We all had to pee but good luck if you leave the highway. You may never find your way back so you might as well tough it out until you get where you need to go. It took us three hours to go 30 miles.
I'm sorry LA but you have officially been taken off the contender list for places to plant ourselves after this adventure. Not that you were really on the list but you hold this fascination and beauty that makes people want to love you. But I can't. I would spend all my time in traffic and that just won't work.
