The Three Beaches
Venice , Santa Monica and Malibu Beach - phew!
We made it to all three in one day and only 2 out of 3 of us were cranky by the end of it.
Venice Beach had a very funky, laid back style. We enjoyed taking a little stroll along the boardwalk but once we hit the crazy crowds, we looked for the nearest emergency exit.
Next up was Santa Monica. We circled and circled and circled and circled but could not find any place to park. It was packed but it can also be a bit tricky to park Louise because she is long and big. I pointed out what looked like a road to maybe another parking area and it ended up taking us to Malibu.
Wow is Malibu beautiful. The drive was spectacular. It was fun to drive by houses right on the water that when their door was open, you could see out to the ocean and their spectacular view. We were trying to figure out how we could park Thelma near the houses but it was just too tight of a fit. Oh well!
We found our way to Pepperdine to take in the beautiful view and see a bit of the campus. The parking was tight and packed so we circled back down and drove back to Santa Monica to see if we could try one more time.
We finally found a spot! By now we have lost a lot of energy but I couldn't miss out on Santa Monica Pier so we took a quick tour, grabbed a frozen custard and made it back to the car in one piece.
All would have been well except that as we collapsed into our seats in the truck - ready to be home - we booted up the directions back home and it was going to be about two hours back.
You're kidding me. Right?
My mom graciously let me take a nap and navigated the hideous traffic back to our park. Little did I know our worst traffic day would come two days later.
All in all, it was a great experience to see all of them. Would it have been more enjoyable to see each beach on its own day? Of course. But I certainly couldn't have handled the traffic three days in a row so I think it was our best option.
