A Day in Napa
Napa is about an hour and twenty minutes north of our campground so we decided to make a day trip out of it.
Unlike most people, Napa makes me think less about wine and more about the remake of The Parent Trap movie. And it is entirely possible we were the only ones (of drinking age) that weren’t there to drink wine.
We started off in downtown Napa after having a delicious In-N-Out burger and meandered our way down the river walk. We did not, unfortunately, stumble upon young Dennis Quaid but we did meet up with Ben and Jerry for some ice cream.
Interestingly, it felt oddly quiet. Many of the shops in town were closed except for a small handful of restaurants. I surmised that Napa wasn’t as booming as it once was and my mom said it might just be the slow season. Either way, it was a lovely day to stroll around town.
Afterwards, we drove out to a vineyard my mom is familiar with and did a little walking around the property. This vineyard is unlike many others in that its main building is underground in order to naturally regulate the building’s temperatures. The juxtaposition between the classic feeling of the vineyards mixed with the very modern building was incredibly cool. We only walked around outside of course because we had Phoebe in tow. She was fawned over by more groupies and one man even bent down to pour his own cold water, fountain like style, for her to drink from. It’s good to be Phoebe.
