To Mamma, With Love
I’ve always been impressed by my mom. As a child, I was in awe of her steadfast boundaries, overwhelming work ethic (“When mom is working, we are all working”) and her unconditional love.
And I continue to value those qualities about her but now I am immensely grateful for her bravery and courage. When we are walking around a beautiful campground, visiting a charming town or taking in a stunning view, I know it’s because of her. She would admit that I have an equal part in helping us get to wherever we are going but her driving guts (she tows a 40 FOOT RV!) is what makes this adventure work. Not many people would take on the stress and challenge of navigating a home on wheels across the country and back again, through intense construction and incredibly awkward campsite spots. My anxious self is often eager to flop down and quit but she has confidence not only in her abilities but the abilities of our small and mighty team.
Ellen Degeneres once said that “it’s wonderful to be loved but it’s profound to be understood.” While I have no doubt in my mind that my mom loves me, there is an extra feeling of gratitude when in the midst of sadness, joy, confusion, anger or stress, she gets me. I don’t have to explain or feel guilty for how I feel - she just knows.
I love you, mamma. Thank you for ALL that you do for me, Phoebe and those around you. Happy Mother’s Day!
